White faced Heron, ardea novaechollandiae Sydney, Warnervale
It was very interesting watching this bird as I was wondering at first what he was up to.
He went to the side of the canal where it was all weedy and swished one of his legs around. He then darted towards the middle and watched and waited till the little fish that had been hiding in the weeds swam out. The Heron then stabed his beak into the water and caught himself a little snack.
Very clever indeed!
Beautiful heron! It's always fun to watch them fish.
